What is a CNC Wheel Lathe Machine?
Alloy wheels often bear the brunt of accidents and poor road conditions. Over time, the protective lacquer can peel, and brake dust can mar their surfaces. Finding a precise replacement for a heavily damaged wheel is both challenging and expensive. In such scenarios, repairing the wheel emerges as the quickest, most cost-effective, and definitive solution.
Before a wheel can be repaired, its surface damage is assessed, followed by straightening and welding if necessary. The next crucial step for any vehicle owner is to restore the wheel to its original aesthetic. This is precisely where a CNC Wheel Lathe Machine becomes indispensable.
Traditional universal lathes are limited to machining wheels with perfectly flat surfaces, which are quite rare. Most modern wheels feature contoured surfaces, making them unsuitable for conventional lathing. CNC Wheel Lathe Machines overcome this limitation by employing highly sensitive ruby probes. These probes scan the wheel's unique contour, transferring the data to a computer system with an astonishing precision of 0.002 mm. This scanning process typically takes just 1 to 4 minutes.
The acquired contour data is then refined by the machine's internal software. Following the scan, a diamond tip precisely removes 0.2 mm of material from the wheel's surface. The result is a brilliantly polished surface that mirrors the factory finish. Should more material removal be necessary, the machine can continue in increments of 0.1 mm or 0.2 mm, always taking into account any previous repairs to the wheel.
For comprehensive record-keeping, the machine's internal memory stores details of the repaired wheel, including the license plate, customer name, and a photograph captured by its built-in camera.
Once the lathing process is complete, the wheel is then prepared for the varnishing process.
